@ExtinctionR I'd have been more impressed* if he held his wedding on the moon and took all his rich acquaintances with him. If Ground Control were then to take a long holiday, well, I imagine it's a very stressful job getting all those people to the moon so at least 6 months off.

@ExtinctionR I would not consider it a problem if somebody can rent Venice to create once-in-a-lifetime event and guests come with private jets.. if this was wedding of a king or the president of a big country, I don't think there would be such a protest. The problem, that I see, is the extreme inequality of wealth. Gini coefficient should be brought closer to the level of Austria, Australia or Belgium in all western world to bring more people into the common shared experience of the world..

@ExtinctionR Someone reported that Venetians have put thousands of inflatable crocodiles in the canals around his intended venue and that he's had to decamp to a secure shipyard...not entirely sure if this is 100% true, but I wouldn't put it past those Venetians.

United States is the land of monopolies. That's why most megacorps are from there.
In Europe, there is always an alternative. For Ikea, you have Leroy Merlin or Bricoman. For Zara, you have Cortefiel or Mango. Etc.
There are richs, of course. But not at the same level of sickness like in the US.
