Today, October 14, 2025, Windows 10 support ended for most users unless you are a business with an extended license (ESU) or located inside the EU with 1 year extension to get security patches. You have a plan for EOL, Right? Your choices are simple if you need Microsoft: Upgrade to Win11 馃槒

you can try installing Linux desktop provided that you no longer needed Windows specific apps or games or have a specific requirements that are not compatible with Linux, BSD or macOS. So choose wisely.

@nixCraft Hopefully canonical can get it together and push for an ad campaign or something. I still feel that ubuntu is probably the most user friendly for less technical desktop users.

@nixCraft while I do have dual boot with Linux Mint on my odyssey x86j4105, has anybody been able to force the windows extended support on Windows enterprise o/s that came with the device? I tried a bunch of the force extended support tutorials and the GitHub script but looks like the o/s (or device) is not supported. No big deal if I can鈥檛 was just checking.

@nixCraft I think 99% of the "inconveniences" of using Linux come either from drivers or from apps, which can be still problematic for some professional users. For casual users, I can't see a reason why not to change to any Linux distro.

@nixCraft if you use Steam, their Proton (no connection to the mail) compatibility layer is great even for newly released tripple A games. I have yet to see a game that doesn't work with that. You can even run non-steam games with some tweaking.
