We do need tiktok alternative now but I think none of these short-video platforms should've exist in the first place. These 30s short video platform's are ruining everything including our attention span. I never used tiktok. I ditched Instagram when Mark Fuckerberg added algorithm & reels.
Pixelfed & Mastodon is good.
Pixelfed seems like the earlier version of Instagram except stories.

OK. I was thinking that they're not so different. As visual media, they both have a lot in common. Personally, I'd appreciate an app where I can view or post either type. I'm interested to see how things turn out.
@dansup this is why I avoid Bluesky like a plague. It's dishonest. Skylight is just Bluesky's video reels. All those "other" apps are just Bluesky nothing else. Pinksky is just Bluesky formatted in Instagram style. Still just Bluesky. After looking back at their beginnings I feel even more confident in avoiding Bluesky.
They aren't stupid, they know what decentralized, they've been misleading about that I can only assume intentionally, they aren't stupid just dishonest.
@dansup I saw the post that loops is federated now. Does that mean I can use one app or one user to use loops as well as Mastodon from one experience?
@musingmouse Loops API is not compatible with Mastodon apps, so you will need to use a dedicated Loops app
@dansup Shortform platforms built on recommendation algorithms supported by advertising will eventually result in the same mentally toxic environment as TikTok.
@dansup at least one skylight dev is in solidarity with bsky team's "waffle" nazi dog whistle, skylight takes funds from Mark Cuban, their app sucks and it's barely a bluesky client...
