Red Hat Linux 4.x. This is pre RHEL days. Clean and easy to use desktop. Does anyone remember using this one?

A screenshot of a Red Hat Linux desktop environment version 4.x from the 90s. You can see the "Start" menu which is open, displaying a list of vintage applications and a control-panel window shows icons for system configuration etc.

@nixCraft You still can have this desktop today. The window manager is called FVWM95. It was a fork of #FVWM to make switching to linux easier. I grew up in Germany so the most common distro was the similar SuSE – also RPM-based, also different from todays Suse Enterprise Linux (SLES).

@nixCraft You used to be able to order your Dell PC with RedHat Linux (avoiding all the normal sound driver and SuperProbe/XFree86 config shenanigans for example) in the 90s and I'm thinking that was still v4.
