Giving a look to what nixpkgs does, I’m not sure to get:

• (1) If Nix packages Julia packages as Flux.jl or AstroLib.jl?
Or
• (2) If Nix lets the users install such Julia packages via Pkg.jl (provided by Julia itself)?

From my understanding, it’s about (2). Can someone confirm?

Context: I’ve not done my homework about Julia since… too long! I’m resuming stuff I did many months ago for – maybe, maybe not! – improving the Julia situation in Guix.

Maybe #Nix friends @yvan @picnoir who are #Guix bilingual 😁

@zimoun @yvan @picnoir from what i recall, in nix, you can specify the *strings* of the names of the julia packages you want to install, and then Nix will use Pkg.jl under the hood to generate an environment with those packages.
so from what i understand, julia packages are not packaged in nix...

@GuilloteauQ Thanks!

Arf, I was not aware about this “doc“. 😁

I was reading these two folders:

https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/tree/nixos-25.11/pkgs/development/compilers/julia
https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/tree/nixos-25.11/pkgs/development/julia-modules
