most people don't know about pixelfed parental controls feature, but here is a parent complaining that we're not exposing their kids to more types of content.

kids shouldn't be on pixelfed. unless you run your own family server with restricted mode, federation disabled and parental controls.

and for the record, mastodon and other software posts are not hard to see.

@dansup It's the parent's responsibility to not let kids use social media. If a parent wants their kid to use social media, then no one has the right to interfere. It's about freedom. Nonetheless, If a kid is educated enough to use social media, then let that be. Hell, they even taught us in elementary school how social media works, and it was a powerful tool for me as a kid. Kids aren't as dumb as adults want them to be.

@dansup As someone who was recently one of the "kids these days": not being able to see your parents' text posts would be a pretty decent selling point for a social media app
