checking HN is not good for my mental health... i like to discover new software/tools/hacks/experiments etc and while that site was always problematic, now there's just too much clAuDe slop, and it is jarring to always read from the people grieving about the huge rug pull after decades of code crafting and from "build or get left behind" slopmaxxers in the same threads. is there a calm computer page out there where people still just do stuff by hand/head?

@mntmn I’ve had a sinus infection all week. I really notice my patience for aggregation news websites go down quickly. Newsboat is really the best refuge for me right now. Or, I can use my Firefox bookmarked folder full of blogs (over 100) open them each and quickly check if there’s anything of interest before closing the tab. Ironically, this is slower paced for me and leads to deeper enjoyment then a site full of links and comments.
I avoid reading the comments on HN. Too much ugliness. Regarding filtering HN, you can subscribe to:
@hn50, @hn100, @hn250 or @hn500 here on Mastodon to filter out HN posts by points accrued. Add "@social.lansky.name" to the end of the above 4.

@mntmn I personally just stopped searching at some point.
I have tons of tools now with multiple alternatives each, and the means to create some myself.
Every now and then, neat stuff pops up on Fedi... and I may give it a try.
@mntmn "By hand/head" – well summarised – that's the recipe for things I want to preserve. My professional field is construction/electrical energy technology, which still leaves a certain safety margin between me and slopmaxxers, but the adventurers are ready to enter this field.
