@dansup I would absolutely agree if there were such a things as ethically trained (eg non-stolen code and non-stolen server usage) models and if data centers were required to be powered by renewables. And that’s just for starters.
As tools democratizing access to tech and creativity these would rule but they’re currently not worth it currently to bankrupt one’s self and planet.
@dansup As long as the code isn't filled with AI comments, as long as it doesnt replace you, and you write most of the code yourself or understand it, then that's alright imo

I am not sure that "anyone can learn to code" and "anyone can produce code" are actually synonymous ?
And I know for sure that the learning curve is much more real when writing one's own code.
@cripamphibie Well, I think that AI/vibe coded software is synonymous with attracting new software developers by giving them a way easier path into the industry than we've had before.
Sure, some people may want to use AI to build something, but not want to learn to code, but I do believe the fact that most AI/vibe coded software is still pretty fragile and buggy would incentivize potential newbies to learn more.

One one hand, eople curious about coding did not wait for the AI to arrive to start build their own projects.
On the other hand, debugging requires both efforts, time and skills, and I feel only those curious in the first place would invest those. The rest would just switch to the next thing.

@joonq @cripamphibie its not copy pasting, its prompt based engineering and product building now, but take a step back and consider those with good intentions who now have a way to build something when they have no prior experience, and don't get me wrong, I'm talking about fun, social apps, not privacy or safety focused E2EE messengers or anonymous journalist submission services.

@joonq @cripamphibie you kinda need to register a domain or create developer accounts (and pay for Android/iOS), then submit your app for approval, and Apple is pretty strict, but yeah I get your point.
This should all be gatekeeped and require a compsci degree, with a github activity graph that can prove you are good enough, right?
