Ubuntu Linux is planning to comply with Age Verification law.

On the unfortunate need for an "age verification" API for legal compliance reasons in some U.S. states

@nixCraft

How about we make arch install scripts more user friendly, can't regulate the OS if its distributed in parts right?

We must pull online harms out by the roots, not simply prune them.

To #BreakBigTech, we must:

🟒 Enforce data protection to stop targeted ads.

🟒 Make algorithms transparent and give us control over them.

🟒 Let us take our followers and data with us when we leave a platform.

The UK government is stuck treating the symptoms, not the cause of online harms.

We don’t need to ban social media or age gate the Internet.

It risks pushing children into unregulated spaces and does nothing to challenge surveillance capitalism, where Big Tech profits at our expense.

Measures to stop online harms just rearrange the deckchairs.

To get serious about it, we must attack how social media platforms do business.

Using our data to keep us online with targeted ads and 'For You' algorithms is the engine of hate and extremism. We must #BreakBigTech.

2/3 On #AgeVerification, the position of EU member states is to have rules which would force most or all private message services to check people's ID documents before being able to use them.

🚫 This would not keep anyone safe, but could have serious negative consequences on everyone's free expression and right to private communications.

The Parliament needs to prioritise making sure that the final text on the #CSARegulation safeguards uses of age verification and doesn't make them mandatory.

1/3 🚨 #ChatControl is in the final stretch 🚨

Today, EU lawmakers are gathering for the next round of formal negotiations on the controversial #CSARegulation.

πŸ”Ž While some of the most controversial issues, like those relating to mass scanning, will come later, we are paying a lot of attention to things that could be discussed soon, especially the rules on #AgeVerification.
