Sometimes admitting defeat and moving on is the best way... (I'm someone who typically keeps persevering, no matter what).

I started setting up my #Sharkey account on https://calckey.world and I almost wanted to cry over how easy things are over there.

Search works, following accounts is seamless... It just... works as intended.

No regrets over ditching my rickety self-hosted Sharkey. The difference in experience is like night and day!

I set up 2FA and immediately uploaded Seirdy's Tier0 blocklist... and unlocked an achievement on my self-hosted #Sharkey instance: "well prepared" 😆​

My oh my I can't believe my eyes. The 9th time was the charm!!! 🥳​

(I had been struggling with this since Friday, so I'm a little in disbelief) ☺️​

And so that there are no misunderstandings: YunoHost is WONDERFUL. I struggled with this particular installation (first time ever) because there isn't an available guide. I will be writing to my YH contacts offering to create such a guide for newbies.

Two crucial things needed to happen (I got advice about the first and lucked out with the second... lots of A/B testing):

1) When you install Sharkey with YunoHost you need to set the initial permissions to "All visitors" (I had it set to Admin only and that's why my instance looked broken).

2) Sharkey has two passwords in the account setup screen. The only combo that worked for me was keeping the first field empty and then using my YunoHost admin's password for the second. The username could be anything, didn't have to be like the YH admin. I'll be changing this stat though, for security reasons.

Voilà. And sorry but need to rush off and set up my profile - yay!

I found a solution to my #Sharkey installation issues!!! (Something as simple as setting the access permission to "visitors", duh). Thank you kind #YunoHost Forum member for setting me on the right path. The 7th time was the charm 🙃​

I'm SOOOOOO EXCITED!!! #Sharkey AKA my favorite Fediverse social software, here we goooooooo

P.S.: in case you're wondering, I will be keeping my #Mastodon account as my main and this #GoToSocial account to share my #selfhosting adventures. Sharkey will be a much smaller profile, private, to just interact with friends and contacts. My little quiet corner of the Fediverse (my two current accounts can get so noisy sometimes, with 100+ daily mentions on Mastodon alone). I'm setting up a fun little zen garden with Sharkey 💁‍♀️​

Less than an hour in, over 100 people have already voted.

No spoilers here (and vote if you can) but my heart aches a little for the fact Sharkey didn't get much love. It's the fedi software I'm most tempted to install because I LOVE its UX/UI... it's just that I have enough ActivityPub profiles as it is 🤪​

It totally makes sense to see what's the popular choice for now and I'd be thrilled to feature it in my guide, as it has become absolutely essential to me.

Still, my face right now as I think about Sharkey: 🥲
