... like, have they even used a text editor? You do no need any coding for this kind of tasks. A basic text editor or spreadsheet can do all that. Somehow trying to anyway use the tool they so desperately want to find useful STILL claws back its way despite them criticizing OP for inefficiency.

I think the things you mentioned can easily be done wit a locally installed LLM. One time invest between 1k$ and 2.5k$. For up to 10 years runtime with Linux. Or with a normal browser. So what are you paying the remaining $200 for? ;)

@nixCraft I watched a presentation from a SIEM vendor where they were testing various LLMs for decoding BASE64 text in Powershell commands. The best one they found was 97% accurate but the other 3% of the time it made up text completely different from the input text. When I suggested that a Commodore 64 could do it 100% of the time for a millionth the cost, he said that they're looking forward to the LLM cost going down sometime in the future. 🤷♂️

@nixCraft AI is incredibly powerful, but there's a huge gap between the hype and reality. Social media is full of 'gurus' promising this will make you rich with revolutionary game-changing results. Meanwhile, anyone who can do simple math looks at the pricing: a million input/output tokens costs [X amount]. Then you track your actual usage and think: 'Wait, what? I'm burning through tokens that fast?'
Maybe these AI gurus have overlooked a few things about the economics?

@nixCraft and I was gobsmacked when I learned there is a "not" library you can pull in in npm. Equivalent to the not-operator language built-in. This is next level. I'm glad they're getting their money's worth at a mere $200/mo
