New users have no idea why their wifi doesn't work and then detractors use it against us. Every Guix thread outside official channels since the beginning of the project has been dominated by this issue and it overshadows all the good things Guix does.
@dthompson @daviwil I’ve come to think we should consider the option of providing non-free firmware for users who want it, similar to what Debian did.
It’s not ideal, and even heart-breaking to me, but probably a better tradeoff at this point.

To me, the non-free position by Debian comrades fits much better the both expectations: the one, we free software activist promote, and the one user with various constraints require.
@dthompson I've thought for awhile that Guix System is just waiting for the Ubuntu to their Debian to start popping off.
@dthompson that thread is kind of nuts though, I'm glad I got off that site. But its your software! I don't even use it as is, though I find the project impressive. I do think there's a level of catering to people that is sort of demanded of ambitious projects like yours that isn't realistic or even human, and I guess thats independent of detractors. Honestly reading that thread and your response makes me want to finally use it, I've read some of your elf parsing code, thats older I don't think its used anymore, and used it for inspiration for some code of my own.
