We are at the end of 2025 and we still need to patch the kernel and compile a driver to get sound working on Linux.

Guide: Linux Audio on the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 (16IAX10H) https://github.com/nadimkobeissi/16iax10h-linux-sound-saga?tab=readme-ov-file

When was the last time you compiled the Linux kernel to get working sound/video?

@nixCraft Just wait a month and the patch should be qued. The change look's very simple.
If you want to help check if there already bugs for the other changes that are required such as the changes to alsa ucm.

@nixCraft Thankfully, I've got a decade-something old cheap HP laptop (having a built-in optical drive and removable battery are important to me) so any bugs were resolved long time ago. Getting MTP to work (in order to transfer files to and fro my phone), on the other hand, was a major pain in the arse. Might be an issue with the phone, however, as the old one worked just fine. (Mint 22.2)

@nixCraft when was the last time I had to recompile the kernel to get working sound on Linux? Maybe not sound specifically, but I've had to do that basically every other year to get some piece of hardware working: webcam, wireless NIC, sound at some point. Although I admit it used to be worse, early 2000s that was basically a quarterly chore.

@nixCraft I just put a debian on a Lenovo E14 gen 7 AMD and was surprised that everything worked. I haven't done a fresh install for a while and a used to rebuilding kernels and drivers.
