Is Pixelfed sawing off the branch that the Fediverse is sitting on?
No. But I hear the community: you want text-only posts.
We are going to build this as an opt-in feature. If you want microblogging, turn it on.
If you prefer the classic media-only experience, nothing changes.
@PixelFed only succeeds when we listen to you, the community.
Give me a few weeks, I promise you won't be disappointed.
@dansup @PixelFed I’m not as invested in this topic as others in this thread seem to be, but it’s definitely worth taking a step back and thinking not about what feedback you’ve received but instead about what your app is /trying to be/.
Adding features is nice, but people use different apps for different reasons. You should serve what makes Pixelfed great, not try to make an everything app. ActivityPub is an open protocol; anyone can develop another app if demand is there
@dansup ploum is not the community, he is an adept of user-hostile ux. Look at his project offpunk: his vision of the tech is literally Gopher. Don't listen to him, trust youself, your users, and science based ux decisions
@dansup @PixelFed The thing that drew me to Pixelfed was that it was only about photos. I only want to share my photos and see other people's photos. If I want to chat, I will do that on Mastodon. Apps don't need to be all things to all people. Do one thing and do it well. That is what Pixelfed is, for now. Just my $0.02.
