Valve Confirms the Steam Box Will Run Linux

Gabe Newell, co-founder and CEO of Valve, confirmed in a recent interview with The Verge that the Steam box will run on a flavor of Linux. Avid PC gamers have always been tied to Windows for their gaming needs, but with Steam now supported by Linux, and Linux-based hardware on the horizon, an alternative OS for gaming seems viable.

The only device I know of that has a displayPort which allows an hdmi to be plugged into it

@256 For context, Valve was concerned with future versions of Windows being more locked down (which it hasn't yet, thankfully), so they planned for Linux pretty early on. I wonder if they had Proton in development as early as 2013, though
