Totally agree to be pissed about #ChatControl and Yes to direct that anger at the @EUCommission.

At the same time, I think it's important to understand that the Commission is not one unified block. It's a huge institution, and totally possible that the Directorate-General for Home Affairs promotes breaking #encryption while DG Justice attempts to protect #democracy and folks who drafted the original #DSA in DG Connect try to defend Europeans' free expression rights from #BigTech overreach.

Collecting data is a responsibility you shouldn't give to vampiric big tech companies: your business plan is unstable if you're using a controversial house of cards like Google to record your precious data. It's like asking a criminal to mind your store, because they'll do it "for free" (their words).

Great #DSA report by @bitsoffreedom about how #Snapchat manipulates its users through notifications:

"From 109 notifications we categorized 39 as misleading." They contained "false information (e.g., “check out this post from someone you follow”—even though we weren't following anyone), resembled a personal message from other users, or were incorrectly labeled as being “time-sensitive”."

Bref : les logiciels libres répondent à ce double enjeu de guerre économique et de contrôle de l’information. C’est aussi un bon exemple d’une manière légale et efficace de tuer une organisation économique : en produisant de l’infrastructure de soin et de service public, efficace, et concurrente. Un cas d’école pour les luttes anarchistes.

Les GAFAMs nous empêchent de voir ça, de publier et de communiquer correctement, depuis près de 20 ans. On a remplacé l’équivalent numérique d’une bibliothèque par un outil de secrétariat augmenté, sans avoir nous-mêmes de secrétaires. C’est absurde.

5/6 ⚠️ Mass surveillance could present itself in two ways: 1) if the Council's preferred voluntary scanning regime is extended indefinitely, #BigTech companies could be allowed to scan the messages of users without any need for suspicion of CSAM crimes.

2) the Council also wants to make it mandatory for most or all private communications services (emails, Signal messages, WhatsApp, etc.) and app stores to use age verification or similar tools. This would have a huge chilling effect.
