> I do believe we should state how we want people to use what we write and build structures that nurture the society we want to live in

@travisfw I do agree, esp. on the last bit. As "we should state how we want" is a) yes, a good thing to do, but b) falls flat afterwards in chaotic "herding of cats" #grassroots environments, esp. at scale where the true "nurturing online society" takes shape. This happens by #emergence, which is my focus area with Social experience design. Truly fascinating stuff.

PS. I'm curious which toot of mine inspired your reply, as its unattached. I hope to blog soon on #ParadoxOfEmergence and have created forum thread already: https://discuss.coding.social/t/sx-sustainable-ecosystem-evolution-see/836

> I've been using the Peer Production License myself

@lykso interesting, TIL didn't know about it. You may peek at #HedonicPeerProduction if you hadn't before: https://coding.social/blog/reimagine-social/#hedonic-peer-production

> Is this ☝️ the gist?

Sort of. You may say that #SX is a holistic approach to foster a fair 'fitness formula' in a #commons.

@strypey

Yes, this is all addressed in my blog post, including the points where there are the most major re-centralization risks of fediverse.

https://coding.social/blog/grassroots-evolution/

As for the overall situation you can compare with road traffic. Post-facto interop is something like "if my car fits through here, then that's my shortcut", and over time it becomes a busy crossroad point. Is it safe? No. Responsible? No, unsuspecting pedestrians are killed by cars speeding from unexpected directions? Is it efficient? Not at all, all traffic is stuck, everyone honking their horns. The law of the strongest rules supreme: Big SUV's and careless drivers have the advantage. Traffic is like this in some countries. People get used to it, and things become streamlined to an extent in this chaos. But it is far from optimal.

Now take the US as example. Totally car-optimized (app-centric). To the extent it isolates people even.

#ThoughtProvoker 🤔

In follow-up to "Grassroots fediverse evolution", which tells the tale of my 8 year social experience in the commons of #FOSS and #ActivityPub fedi, I am preparing another article, called "Paradox of emergent chaordic commons", which is a factor to take into account for ensuring Sustainable ecosystem evolution (SEE).

See the article's #poll and consider joining the brainstorm for yourself in my call-to-reflection on fedi's future: https://social.coop/@smallcircles/116379158584600016

The pillars of the #fediverse, which I honor in my article, @evan and @silverpill are doing fabulous work. But it is also work that more people should do, the chores should be more fairly delegated and balanced between all commons participants.

#CommonsJanitoring. There's a saying that starts with "If we all did our part" which in #SX forms a key tenet. Proactive ecosystem participation should be duly rewarded for the commons to become more sustainable.

Discussion thread is already made:
